3.Ekalavya : An Open Source Knowledge Initiative by IITB
The ekalavya portal
is an attempt to generate an interactive platform for the creation, absorption,
dissemination and usage of knowledge for the well being of the individual and
the society. It is a significant step forward to bring together students,
teachers, and working professionals to meaningfully enhance the productivity of
the group and spread knowledge. The ekalavya portal aims at a free exchange of
knowledge and ideas, by placing all the relevant academic material in the Open
Source, thus making considerable contribution to society. It is envisaged that
the ekalavya project will become an all-encompassing activity over the years,
using IT effectively for education. It aspires to build large collaborative
communities where seekers are matched by the givers.
What is eGURU:
·
eGURU is an Open Source initiative
providing e-guidance and online mentorship to students of B.E., M.C.A. and M.Sc.
(CS/ IT/ Electronics) programmes, for their projects.
·
Mentors are volunteering faculty,
research scholars and industry professionals, willing to spend two to three
hours a week on mentoring.
·
Student groups are guided by the mentors
through all the stages of project execution, i.e., submission of the project
proposal, SRS, SDS and submission of the final code.
·
Successfully completed projects under eGURU are
released in the Open Source.
·
They are also considered for attractive scholarship
schemes under the eGURU programme.
·
All activities in the eGURU programme are done online,
i.e., submission of project proposal, mentoring and submission of the finished
project.
·
Educational Institutions can participate
in the eGURU programme by registering their students for the programme.
However, each participating institution will be required to appoint a faculty
member as academic coordinator for the project work.
·
Industry can provide challenges in the
form of real life problems to the students, and encourage them to come up with
viable and innovative solutions. The industry, in turn, gains easy access to
young talent, as well as to usable Open Source software.
